If you're really into non-commercial, underground, independent music, DIY, netlabels or smaller, indie labels, you'll love INDEPENDENT REVIEW (to get there, just click here: http://wp.me/1EqXE). For around 3 years or so I've been churning out many reviews of new albums by a variety of bands, artists, etc. I get music from various sources: labels, DIY artists who email me their albums as a download, the same with netlabels who have a new release *** or there and want to get some publicity for it and so on.
Before I started Independent Review, I was writing LOTS of reviews for a San Diego-based publication, REVIEWER, which also, as of about 5 years ago, at least, has had a corresponding website (https://www.reviewermag.net) - when I wrote for REVIEWER, I was living a very convenient distance to clubs, downtown, so I was able to easily get to see a variety of concerts. Since I.R. started up, the only shows I've been to have been Joan of Arc at the Casbah, in May, 2012 and Owen, at the Irenic, in Aug., 2013. But there are some interesting shows coming up - one is Pinback, making a "homecoming" of sorts (since they're based *** in SD) and I just heard of another show that could be worth checking out: Neutral Milk Hotel is playing a show at the North Park Theater, in SD as part of the final leg of their latest tour, after which, they'll be taking a "hiatus" - for how long, I don't know. Anyway, tix go on sale on Friday, for the Pinback show, which is Wed., Jan 14 at the Casbah, on Kettner Ave, right between downtown SD and the EXTREMELY gentrified neighborhood that calls itself "Little Italy" (why? No idea. Maybe it's because they have a few Italian restaurants there, but otherwise, it's just another expensive, built-up, gentrified area). Anyway, Casbah is behind the main drag of "Little Italy", on Kettner, so you don't have to crawl through a pile of snobs on your way there! (ha ha ha). If I had to pick & could go to only one of those two, I would pick Pinback in a second.
Anyway, I hope you will have a look at INDEPENDENT REVIEW (that's http://wp.me/1EqXE) and, please, leave comments, suggestions, feedback, whatever. I love to see things happening. Become a "follower" too..."JOIN US!"
Well, have a groovy day.
